DEMOCRACY AT RISK– A Two-Day Film Festival
On the eve of the 2026 midterm elections, the League of Women Voters of Chicago and the Gene Siskel Film Center present "Democracy at Risk" film festival on Sunday, October 4 and Monday, October 5, 2026. General admission is $14.50, with discounted rates available for students and seniors. Tickets, further details, and film schedule are available at siskelfilmcenter.org/democracy.

This year's carefully curated double feature includes the award-winning 1951 drama Ace in the Hole, starring Kirk Douglas and written and directed by Billy Wilder; and the 1968 documentary Medium Cool, written and directed by Haskell Wexler– two enduring American classics that ask timeless questions about journalism, democracy, and the uneasy relationship between truth and spectacle.

"Our film festival underscores the League's commitment to stimulating conversation, enhancing understanding of democratic institutions, and promoting civic involvement through films that address both historical and contemporary political issues," said Jane Ruby, President of the League of Women Voters of Chicago.
