The Pollwatcher Project
A pollwatcher is an official election observer who is provided with a special credential allowing them to observe the proceedings inside a polling place during an election. The League has participated in the Pollwatcher Project for the past several elections; in doing so the League has supported the democratic process by supporting election safety and voters’ rights.
The Project provides guidelines for pollwatchers’ duties, a survey to be completed for each precinct, and pollwatcher training. Each of us is assigned to a polling place on election day in Evanston or Skokie, based on where we live. The only requirement is that you be a registered voter in Cook County. For more information, contact Gail Weisberg, voterservices@lwve.org.
Register Voters – Become a Deputy Registrar
Empower others by becoming a Deputy Registrar today. The Cook County Clerk's office provides training. Many members of the League are Deputy Registrars and renew their training annually.
To become a Deputy Registrar, you must be:
- 18 years of age or older
- Registered to vote in Cook County
- Sponsored by a civic organization (e.g., school, public library, community organization, etc.…) The LWVE is a sponsoring organization for member deputy registrars.
Election Judges and Equipment Technicians Needed!
Every election in suburban Cook County requires a team of Election Judges and Polling Place Technicians to serve voters at the polls. It’s a great way to contribute to our democratic principles as well as make a little extra money. Click here for more information about opportunities available and ways to apply.
