At the ETHS Senior Awards Ceremony on May 6, 2026, Eleanor Ghogomu received the League’s 2026 scholarship. The scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior who has demonstrated commitment to an activity that promotes participation in the political process in the school and/or the Evanston community. Consistent with the League’s mission, the scholarship further recognizes a student who exemplifies a high standard of good citizenship and social involvement. This includes participation in activities such as student government and voter registration that show interest and engagement in public service and the political process.
While in high school, Ms. Ghogomu worked with E-Town Sunrise, a youth climate advocacy group, as an outreach leader and Hub Meeting and Outreach Coordinator. She was also a co-planner and co-facilitator of the school’s annual Climate Justice Conference (CJC). For the CJC she developed workshops for ETHS students with varying degrees of knowledge. She attended weekly planning meetings, reached out to outside organizations, created flyers, helped set up events, and worked with both peers and ETHS staff. She also worked for the adoption of the Green New Deal at ETHS. In addition, Ms. Ghogomu was involved with the ETHS Student Council, the Community Service Organization, and the Shedd Aquarium Teen Council.
Ms. Ghogomu also earned consistently high grades while engaged in her various civic activities. She plans to attend the University of Illinois in the fall.
