June and July are filled with Evanston and Skokie community gatherings, and LWVE members took part in several this year, as observers and as active participants. See the
Voter Services article and the
Juneteenth feature for more information and photos.
Several LWVE members marched or rode in Evanston’s Fourth of July parade. The theme this year was
Home of the Brave Since 1776. We dressed in red, white, and blue, waved flags and held up signs, and encouraged spectators to vote. We also did some informal future-voter education along the way, like reminding teens to register when they’re 18. And parade watchers gave us a lot of support, clapping their hands and shouting out their appreciation. We felt proud of our community and our organization – and grateful for the brave people who have worked across decades to secure and maintain the right to vote.
Thanks to Katie O’Neil for organizing LWVE participation in this special event!
