LWVUS Resolution: Electing the US President by Popular Vote One LWV focus for 2026-2028 will be the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact. Learn about the Compact, arguments for and against it, and how it became part of the LWV National Program.


Old Board–New Board Celebratory Gathering New, retiring, and continuing LWVE Board members gathered to celebrate our accomplishments and to plan for the coming year.


Voter Services: Summer Roundup and Forward to Fall Our Voter Services team has been busy with summer activities—and planning for the November election.


City Council Adopts Strategic Housing Plan– with Difficulty The City of Evanston’s Strategic Housing Plan has been approved. Getting there was complicated, but the goals now formally adopted emphasize the value of affordability and economic diversity

 The 104th General Assembly adjourned on May 30 after passing some environmental bills–and leaving many others for the fall veto session or future General Assemblies.
 
Travel by Rail: The Best Option for Us and Our Planet?
  Long-distance travel by rail can be a sustainable and enjoyable means of transportation, as one LWVE member discovered on a recent trip


LWVE Members Participate in Evanston’s Juneteenth Events – We took part in the morning walk, offered children a chance to reflect on what makes a leader, and honored leaders in our own community.


Celebrating our Nation’s 250th Birthday– Parade watchers showed appreciation as we walked and rode in Evanston's Fourth of July parade. See photos of our decorated car and enthusiastic marchers.

Upcoming Events 

  • August 4– The LWV-Cook County annual Food for Thought Luncheon will feature a discussion with County Commissioners. See the LWV-CC website for details. 
  • August 20– Our annual LWVE Legislative Luncheon will feature insights from our state senators and representatives. Learn more and sign up to attend through the Legislative Luncheon Event Page on our website.
  • September 17– A Constitution Day program at the Evanston Public Library, Mending the Constitution to Include the Declaration, will address how the Declaration of Independence inspired amendments to the Constitution and the surprising role that women played. This event is co-sponsored by the North Shore Village Network, LWVE, and the library; see the library website for more information and a registration link.
